The Hammer’s are a competitive eleven and under baseball team located in Topeka, Kansas. The eleven boys that play on the team represent four different school districts and eight elementary schools. The baseball team was established in 2005. Seven of the original players are returning for their third season. The Hammer’s head coach is Troy McMaster. Troy played four years of college baseball at Butler County Community College and Baker University. During the summers he played semi-pro baseball with the Topeka Owls. Troy has several assistant coaches with baseball backgrounds. The Hammer’s coaches promote teaching good fundamentals, competition, sportsmanship and fun.
The Hammer’s compete in league play at SCABA and attend several tournaments throughout each season. They are recognized as a USSSA AAA team and have also competed in the American League Division of Super Series events. The Hammer’s attended the National Super Series tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2006. They had a good run in their first National tournament eventually losing out to the second place team and the tournament champion by one run. Throughout the last two seasons the Hammer’s have participated in tournaments in seven different cities within a 80 mile radius of Topeka. In 2006 the team enjoyed two tournament championships and second place finishes twice.
In order to play at a competitive level, the team must rely on fundraisers, family support, and sponsors. Expenses during the year include league fees, uniforms, equipment, practice facility rental, scorebooks, banner, and tournament fees that range from $300 - $500 per event. During each league and tournament game a banner is displayed with the team logo and every sponsors name. Sponsors who donate $250 or more will have their contact information included on the banner. For sponsors donating $500 or more a large logo and contact information will be displayed. In addition, each sponsor donating $250 will be provided with a game schedule, tournament passes and team apparel if desired.
